What is a Gospel Movement?

One Hope advances the Gospel Movement in Lane County by bringing leaders together to fulfill our shared mission.

Gospel Movement | The whole church taking the whole gospel to the whole community, unto individual and societal transformation.

  • Whole Church
Every Jesus-follower and Christ-centered congregation in a community.
The diverse and beautiful expression of the Body of Christ.
Example: Paul wrote letters to all the believers in Philippi, Roman, Colossi . . .

  • Whole Gospel
A holistic and united witness involving God’s miraculous presence, loving actions and gospel proclamation.

  • Whole Community
Individuals from every demographic, worldview and neighborhood; and every sphere and system within our community (foster care, schools, government, business, the arts, etc.).

  • Global Gospel Movement of the Holy Spirit
In our day, the unified expression of churches and Jesus-followers in cities around the world is consistent and increasing. Thriving movements are happening in Africa, India, Dubai, England, Brazil, Australia, Canada, U.S, and more.

As leaders, we have a shared calling in a common geography.

Our witness to our whole community depends on our obedience to Jesus’ priorities together:

  • The Greatest Commandment, the Second and the New Command: Love God, our neighbors and one another. Matthew 22:36-40, John 13:34,35

  • The Great Commission: Multiplying new disciples. Matthew 28:18-20

  • The United Community of Believers: Jesus' prayer for unity so that the world will know and believe with us. John 17:20-23

Therefore, One Hope helps leaders and Jesus-followers engage Jesus’ Priorities together through 3 objectives:

  • Together Seek the Lord through worship and prayer

  • Together Serve our community through partnerships

  • Together Share the Gospel with our neighbors

“The expression ‘the whole church’ insists that mission is the task of all Christians, not just of the clergy or missionaries. The Lausanne Covenant talks of our being ‘called out’ to be ‘sent out’.

The whole gospel is fully expressed only when the Church, Christ’s body on earth, faithfully fulfils the three roles Christ himself fulfilled on earth and for which he empowers us through his Spirit. We are called to a priestly role in worship and in prayer (Together Seek); to a prophetic role in declaring God’s message and priorities to his world (Together Share); and to a servant role (Together Serve). When these are practiced together we truly reflect God’s redeeming love for the world.”

Why a Gospel Movement?

It is God's design that the Glory of Jesus and His Gospel would permeate a community, through His united Body - as they love and labor as one.

No one congregation, denomination, or ministry could dream of displaying Him fully, let alone reach a whole community. Nor is it God's design for churches and leaders to be isolated and mere acquaintances. But in our togetherness...

The glory and reputation of God are at stake in the unity or disunity of His church. What authenticates the gospel? In our love and our unity, we do (John 17).

Here in Lane County, we share the same place and time. Will we make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit, as we contend for the Gospel to transform our lives and the community He has entrusted to us?
